Seminar Details

Spoilt for choice! We have a wonderful array of seminars based on our theme - Who's really in charge?

Please indicate your order of preference on the booking form (see below). We will make every effort to enable you to attend your first or second choice.

Praying to a Sovereign God

What's the point of praying if God's already decided what's going to happen? Yet in the Scriptures, a robust belief that God is in charge is often the reason that believers pray more, and more confidently. What have they figured out about God's Sovereignty that actually fuels their prayers?

Andrew Sach, Pastor at Grace Church Greenwich and tutor on the Cornhill Training Course.

God's Sovereignty over my Money and Giving

Many of us are tempted to think that if God is sovereign, it doesn't really matter whether we give money towards the gospel. How does God’s sovereignty impact our use of money and giving; an area of our discipleship we can be reluctant to talk about?

Mark Jackson, trainee minister at Grace Church Upton. Married to Hannah with six month old Ben, they love hiking up as many hills as possible!

God's Sovereignty over the Church and its Mission

Does the church have a future in our nation with falling attendance and often weak, ineffective and compromised churches? Jesus said, "I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail". How can we discern God's Sovereign building activity when much seems depressing? We will be looking for encouragements and thinking about how we can pray effectively for our once Christian land.

Mark Lucas, Rector of St Botolph's Church Barton Seagrave for 15 years. Also served on the Diocesan Synod, Bishop's Council, and Diocesan board of finance and currently a member of General Synod. Mark has four grown up married children, and nine grandchildren (at the time of writing!). On warm summer days Mark loves riding his motorcycle.

God's Sovereignty over Health and Wellbeing

This seminar explores how God’s sovereignty shapes our understanding of health and wellbeing; personally, in the church, and in the wider community. We’ll look at scripture, and, sharing our experiences, explore how God's word should shape the church’s relationship with medicine, healthcare, the ministry of healing, and our own self-care. Through teaching, discussion, and prayer, participants will be equipped to trust God more deeply and embody His healing presence in the world.

Philip Evans, ordained for 35 years, currently Associate Vicar of Moulton, previously with 15 years' experience of healthcare chaplaincy both in an acute teaching hospital and in a secure mental health charity.  He is a Tutor for Partnerships in International Medical Education (PRIME) and a Prospective Trustee of the Guild of Health and St Raphael (GoHealth).

God’s Sovereignty in Suffering

All of us experience suffering of some sort, in some way…  It’s something our secular society likes to shield us from and even deny it exists, but we all know that’s nonsense! Experiencing suffering in its many forms can be one of the biggest challenges to our faith. The Bible is clear that being a Christian doesn’t mean we’re exempt from suffering. In fact, we are to expect it. So how can we be ready when it comes? How can we experience God’s Sovereignty in our suffering?

Andy Clarke, Associate Minister at St Botolph’s Church Barton Seagrave for 14 years, main responsibility Youth Ministry. Married to Kirsty and they have two daughters. When he has time, Andy loves spending time in his garage making stuff out of wood!

God's Sovereignty over my Future and Eternity

Whatever we do our futures can seem full of problems. What use is eternity to us now? In this seminar we will explore how God’s sovereignty can help us plan for the future and live for eternity.

James March, former church pastor and Planter, now lay leader at Grace Church Upton, and Research Scientist at Royal Holloway University of London. Married to Naomi with two teenage boys, James loves spending time with his family, reading and Newcastle football club.
